Squirrel!

He was so focused on stuffing his little face that he let me get within a foot of him.

It's so nice to be able to use our grill again! Mmmmm, hot dogs...

Look closely and you can see the top of the grill through the blinds. My original idea was to get a picture of the hot dogs cooking on the grill, but then I forgot and by the time I remembered they were already in the buns and on the plates. Megan couldn't wait to take a bite. :)

On Sunday we said our last goodbyes to our old apartment...

We left it even cleaner than when we moved in 3 years ago - almost to the day, too!

I spotted this Great Blue Heron in flight near Beacon Hill Park. It's good to see more of these magnificent birds these days. Their numbers dwindled for a few years, but now they're making a strong comeback...

We had enough in our moving budget to purchase just a few new pieces of furniture and we asked for them to be delivered to our new home. Less to carry with us when we move next weekend...

Trust me, it looks better properly installed in our new condo.

Packing for our move has become much easier thanks to these shipping bins Megan was able to borrow from her workplace. Five of these are full of books and the 6th is full of cd's...

JDS Atago, a Japanese Escort Ship, heads out of Esquimalt. She's the last of the visiting Navy ships to leave following this past weekend's International Fleet Review.

The photo was pretty grainy because of my camera's digital zoom, so I've done my best to enhance it using the software that came with the camera.

Canada's Snowbirds did a lap over Victoria today to announce their arrival. They have a big show here on Saturday as part of the Navy celebrations.

Photo # 70

In honour of the International Fleet Review and the Canadian Navy Centennial, I'm posting another photo of one of our ships. This is a Halifax Class Frigate heading out of her home port of Esquimalt. Sorry if the image is a little grainy, I used the camera's digital zoom.

I took this photo a few weeks ago and was waiting for this week to post it. I hope I can get down to the waterfront to see some of the visiting ships from other Navies including New Zealand, Japan, Australia and the USA. At the time I'm writing this, we have an American Aircraft Carrier anchored just off of our cruise ship pier! I may have photographed lots of ships in my lifetime, but I've never taken a photo of a carrier. Here's hoping I can find time in my busy schedule...

It seems there's always work being done on the building next door...

This articulated lift has been parked here for a few days now and is the first thing I see when I step out onto my balcony. It's just a baby compared to some of the machines I've driven, but they are great for small buildings like this.
On a side note: Another reason I look forward to moving is I'll no longer have a view directly into another building. I miss having the trees there and the privacy they provided.

It dawned on me just a short time ago that I hadn't posted a picture for today. I have to admit I really had no idea what to post. Megan came to my rescue once again by asking if I had shown anyone our little Garry Oak tree. I haven't. Not even on facebook. Rather odd for someone with an affinity for Oak trees, don't you think?
Last fall we planted three acorns and only one has sprouted. It seems every other day there's a new leaf! Our hope is that we can take care of this little tree for as long as we possibly can and that, hopefully, it can eventually be planted in a location where it will be allowed to grow into one of those awesome, gnarled, fairy tale like trees.
