The finished cabinet. Okay not entirely finished. When I was putting it back together, Megan pointed out that I didn't paint the little door knob - which was kept in a small bag with the rest of the little screws and pins. It's still drying out on the balcony at press time and will be attached to the door when I mount the cabinet onto the bathroom wall tomorrow.

Tonight, I gave an old cabinet new life...

It used to be blue.
Tomorrow the finished product.

I found this classic Led Zeppelin poster at a local music store this afternoon and figured it would be perfect for my den. I'll have to find a frame for it, so for now it's just tacked to the wall. I think it looks pretty cool...

A photo with a story...

Somewhere in Rebecca Spit Park, Quadra Island, BC. This is not a new photo, I took it about 5 summers ago and haven't posted it anywhere before. The reason I'm posting it today is mostly personal nostalgia. Sixteen years ago I met a girl on Quadra Island and we began hanging out together quite frequently. I would take the ferry from Campbell River as often as I could just to go and see her. One day, a mutual friend and her family invited us to spend the day with them here at Rebecca Spit, but the girl and I would often wander off by ourselves. We were still getting to know each other, so we had a lot to talk about.
After that wonderful day, I took the ferry back home promising I would call her later that night. I kept my word and we carried on our conversations well into the early hours of the next morning. It was around that time that the girl said to me: "I want to be your girlfriend."
That morning was Aug. 27th, 1994. We've been together ever since. Although our wedding anniversary isn't until November, I still like to celebrate the day we officially became a couple. And we still have a lot to talk about, too!
Happy 16 Years, Megan!

I was screwing around with my camera tonight taking black and white photos of random things, trying to come up with a photo for today, when I heard some noise coming from my laundry room. Camera in hand, I went to investigate...

Merlin the cat was up to something.

I don't think he was very happy that I interrupted him. But then, right in front of me as if I wasn't there, he decided to carry out his plan...

Of course that's clean laundry, so I had to put a stop to this and put the laundy away - like Megan asked me to last night, and Merlin decided to curl up somewhere else.

A peek at where I've been working this week...

This is looking into the liquor store from the back room. I've been given the task of painting the entire store one section at a time while renovations are taking place. The tricky part? The store is open during renovations.

Life is good right now, but what I wouldn't give to go back here for another week. I've been working really hard this year and it's been far too long since my last real vacation...

The best thing about working where I'm working this week, is that I walk by the Swan Lake Nature Reserve on my way home. This pretty little area makes me forget that I'm still in Victoria. The freeway to the airport lies just beyond the trees and there's a huge retail development just a few blocks South of where I paused this afternoon to take this photo.

My lovely wife Megan made her very first quiche tonight. It's a spinach quiche with bacon and it tasted great!

To celebrate singer Robert Plant's birthday I decided to watch his 2006 Sound Stage performance with the Strange Sensation this afternoon. Excellent concert! This DVD is only available through PBS' website, but I happened to find it at a second hand music store. Lucky me!

Like I said yesterday, I keep my equipment and work area tidy!

Of course I don't mean any disrespect to my co-painters. I just find the job goes smoother when things are clean and organized. And if my boss sees this or the previous photo, I took them during designated breaks.

Tomorrow, I'll show you how I set up the sprayer.

I missed a photo yesterday! Oops! I ended up going to a friend's house for a Mexican Potluck and margaritas and it just sort of slipped my mind. I even had the camera with me too! Oh well, stuff happens. Here is your photo for yesterday: my Apple Enchiladas, which were a huge hit!

Ancient ruins. Okay, not exactly, but they are quite old. These are the remains of a bridge that used to span the ravine not far from my home.

As a painter, I've been called upon to paint a variety of surfaces, including my wife's pretty little toenails...

Her colour for this summer: Deep Purple.
I used the camera's colour accent function to isolate the purple.

A barn swallow in flight. Zoom!

I don't care that this photo is a little out of focus or that my subject isn't centered. I'm just happy that I finally captured one of these cool little birds in flight. I really enjoy watching them chase bugs, but it's next to impossible to photograph them flying because they're so fast. Like little fighter jets!

All that's missing is the surfboard...

Look at the room number behind the car. 127! Also, I know it's hard to read but the red & white sign behind the car reads: "Please do not back in." This guy's a rebel.

An ominous haze of smoke shrouded Victoria this morning giving the sun an eerie copper glow...

This image has not been enhanced and my camera was set to auto mode when I took the photo at about 11:00 this morning. The haze of smoke is from some of the many forest fires currently burning here in BC.
