It's Bike To Work Week in BC. From my aerial vantage point at work, I watched local law enforcement officers give a group of elementary kids a few lessons on traffic safety...

It's been so grey, cold and rainy in Victoria lately that I found myself browsing through photos from my honeymoon in Hawaii this afternoon and dreaming of being back there. What I wouldn't give...

We have a brand new chair! No more sitting in front of the computer on a crappy plastic folding chair!

The cardboard under the wheels is a temporary way to protect our floors. We were going to wait to buy this chair until we moved into our new home, where there will be a rug under the desk area, but it was on sale this week for a very good price. Merlin walking into the shot was a total fluke.

My vintage 1960's Raven. My late grandfather gave me this guitar when I was about 16 years old. Age has taken it's toll on this old guitar and fixing it will require a little more knowledge and skill than I presently have in guitar repair. Someday though, she will sing again...

I was inspired to post a photo of my oldest guitar after watching the movie It Might Get Loud this afternoon. The guitarists talking about their old instruments made me feel nostalgic.

As I promised last week, the view from the roof of the 24 storey tall Orchard House. As a special bonus, I'm throwing in a few extra photos to give you a panorama of Victoria.
This is looking West towards Ogden Point, Esquimalt and Colwood way out there in the background.

The view continues Northwest towards the James Bay area and the Inner Harbour.

Looking Northward to Downtown Victoria. In the distance, on the left, is Mount Douglas.

Looking East. You can't see my apartment building through the trees, but I live at the top of the hill just left of the two tall buildings.

And finally, this is the Southern view. Trial Island is out in the distance and the Juan De Fuca Strait stretches out to the horizon.

Harbour Pilots returning to home port...

Whenever a large freighter passes through the waters around Southern Vancouver Island, an experienced and certified local Pilot must be brought on board to guide the big ships through some of the tricky narrow channels. This cool little boat races out to meet up with the big ships and pull right up along their sides as they're moving. Then the Pilot will climb up on a little ladder and board the ship. If the big ship is going the other way, the little boat brings the returning Pilot home. This happens many times a day, so this little boat is kept busy!

In honor of Canada's Navy Day Centennial today, here is a photo I took in 2009 of a couple of our Pacific Fleet's ships in their home port of CFB Esquimalt just outside of Victoria, BC.

This view is from Fort Rodd Hill National Park. The Hazmat building I worked in can't be seen from this angle.

The view from my balcony this afternoon. By the end of the day 80% of the trees and shrubs between us and the neighboring building were gone, along with our privacy. The road noise is also that much louder. Imagine how the birds feel...
