Canada's Snowbirds did a lap over Victoria today to announce their arrival. They have a big show here on Saturday as part of the Navy celebrations.

Photo # 70

In honour of the International Fleet Review and the Canadian Navy Centennial, I'm posting another photo of one of our ships. This is a Halifax Class Frigate heading out of her home port of Esquimalt. Sorry if the image is a little grainy, I used the camera's digital zoom.

I took this photo a few weeks ago and was waiting for this week to post it. I hope I can get down to the waterfront to see some of the visiting ships from other Navies including New Zealand, Japan, Australia and the USA. At the time I'm writing this, we have an American Aircraft Carrier anchored just off of our cruise ship pier! I may have photographed lots of ships in my lifetime, but I've never taken a photo of a carrier. Here's hoping I can find time in my busy schedule...

It seems there's always work being done on the building next door...

This articulated lift has been parked here for a few days now and is the first thing I see when I step out onto my balcony. It's just a baby compared to some of the machines I've driven, but they are great for small buildings like this.
On a side note: Another reason I look forward to moving is I'll no longer have a view directly into another building. I miss having the trees there and the privacy they provided.

Photo #63

It dawned on me just a short time ago that I hadn't posted a picture for today. I have to admit I really had no idea what to post. Megan came to my rescue once again by asking if I had shown anyone our little Garry Oak tree. I haven't. Not even on facebook. Rather odd for someone with an affinity for Oak trees, don't you think?
Last fall we planted three acorns and only one has sprouted. It seems every other day there's a new leaf! Our hope is that we can take care of this little tree for as long as we possibly can and that, hopefully, it can eventually be planted in a location where it will be allowed to grow into one of those awesome, gnarled, fairy tale like trees.
