Two job sites in one photo. The blue building on the far left is Orchard House, where I worked last year. The sandstone coloured building on the right with the Roman style columns is the old Canadian Pacific Steamship building, more recently known as the Wax Museum, where I'll start working on Tuesday. In the middle is BC's Legislature building. I haven't worked there. I'm not sure any work gets done there. *ahem*

I've always had a thing for old architecture, and Victoria is full of many great examples. Too bad so many of these once beautiful buildings ended up abandoned like this one from 1891. I can only imagine what it looked like when it was new...

I was stuck without a photo idea for today, and then I remembered these photos I took two days ago: The Homecoming statue in Victoria's Inner Harbour...

This was commissioned for the Canadian Navy's Centennial Celebration last year. Along the bottom are the names and crests of all of the current ships in the Pacific Fleet, based just outside of Victoria in Esquimalt.

I think the thing I like most about this statue is that the returning sailor has a teddy bear in his bag for his daughter. That's a nice touch by the artist...

I'd say The Zone's Toy Drive this morning was a success. Their goal was to fill that Chevy Cruze and, well, as you can see...

I actually had to step back pretty far to get the whole pile in frame! Way to go Victoria! There are going to be a lot of happy kids on Christmas morning! The teddy bears I donated (see yesterday's post) are somewhere up on the roof of the car with the other bears.

Another thing I did during yesterday's break in the rain was take a brisk walk around Swan Lake, which is just down the road from my home. The water was as smooth as glass and I really like how my pictures turned out like paintings. This one is my favorite and I didn't do any editing...

Canadian Coast Guard ship Provo Wallis in Victoria...

This photo is actually from exactly 2 years ago today. I'm posting it for two reasons. A: There have been a lot of Coast Guard ships visiting Victoria lately, but I haven't taken my camera to work with me to get any photos; and B: I couldn't come up with a better idea for today.

Victoria's landmark Capital Iron building, built in 1863...

According to local history books, this building started out as a flour and rice mill then became a scrap iron depot. Ships would be tied up to the docks out back and hardware from the ships would be salvaged and sold. About 80 years ago the building became the store now known as Capital Iron. While they no longer sell old scrap from ships, they do carry all sorts of hardware, camping gear, kitchenware, Barbeque's, and so much more. And they have a neat collection of antique mariner's equipment down in the basement too!
